FAQ — Virgo Advisory

Question 1

What is Virgo Advisory?

Accepted Answer

Virgo Advisory is a Canadian business advisory firm that helps entrepreneurs and small businesses start, build, and grow. We combine practical business expertise with modern technology — including AI tools — to give you the kind of support that used to be reserved for large corporations.

Question 2

Who do you work with?

Accepted Answer

We work with two main groups: people who are starting a business for the first time and need guidance through the process, and existing business owners who want to improve operations, adopt better technology, or scale more efficiently. Most of our clients are based in Canada, though we work with businesses across North America.

Question 3

Where is Virgo Advisory based?

Accepted Answer

We are based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and serve clients across Canada. Most of our work is done remotely, so location is rarely a barrier.

Question 4

How do I get started?

Accepted Answer

The easiest way is to book a free introductory call. We'll spend 30 minutes understanding your situation and goals, and tell you honestly whether and how we can help. There's no obligation. You can also reach us directly at info@virgoadvisory.com.

Question 5

Do I need a formal business plan before starting?

Accepted Answer

Not always. A full 40-page business plan is rarely necessary for most small businesses. What you do need is clarity on your idea, your customers, and your numbers. We help you build the level of planning that actually fits your situation — whether that's a one-page summary or a full investor-ready document.

Question 6

How long does it take to register a business in Canada?

Accepted Answer

In most provinces, registering a sole proprietorship or partnership takes one to three business days. Incorporating federally or provincially typically takes one to five business days online. We guide you through the right structure for your goals and handle the paperwork so nothing gets missed.

Question 7

Should I incorporate or operate as a sole proprietor?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your revenue, risk tolerance, and long-term goals. Sole proprietorships are simpler and cheaper to set up, but corporations offer liability protection and tax advantages as you grow. We walk you through the trade-offs so you can make the right call for your specific situation.

Question 8

How much does it cost to start a business in Canada?

Accepted Answer

It varies widely. A simple service business can be launched for a few hundred dollars in registration fees. A product-based or brick-and-mortar business may require tens of thousands. We help you build a realistic startup budget so there are no surprises.

Question 9

Can AI actually help a small business?

Accepted Answer

Yes — and it doesn't require a large budget or a technical team. AI tools can save hours each week on tasks like drafting documents, responding to customer inquiries, analysing data, and automating repetitive workflows. We focus on practical, proven applications rather than hype.

Question 10

Which tools and platforms do you work with?

Accepted Answer

We work with a wide range of tools depending on your needs — including QuickBooks, Xero, Shopify, HubSpot, Google Workspace, Notion, Slack, Stripe, and various AI platforms. We recommend tools based on your budget and goals, not on commissions.

Question 11

Do I need to be tech-savvy to work with you?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. We explain everything in plain language and set things up so they're easy for you to manage day-to-day. If a tool is too complicated for your team to use consistently, we won't recommend it.

Question 12

How does a typical engagement work?

Accepted Answer

We start with a discovery call to understand your situation. From there, we scope a project or retainer arrangement that fits your needs and budget. Most engagements begin with a defined project — like business registration, a technology audit, or an operations review — and many clients continue with ongoing advisory support.

Question 13

How much do your services cost?

Accepted Answer

Pricing depends on the scope of work. We offer project-based pricing for defined deliverables and monthly retainers for ongoing support. We're transparent about costs upfront — no surprise invoices. Book a call and we'll give you a clear picture after understanding your needs.

Question 14

How long does it take to see results?

Accepted Answer

For business registration and setup, most clients are operational within one to two weeks. For technology implementations and process improvements, meaningful results typically show within 30 to 60 days. We set realistic timelines at the start of every engagement.

Question 15

Do you offer ongoing support after the initial project?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many clients work with us on a retainer basis after their initial project — for ongoing advisory, technology management, or as a sounding board as their business grows. There's no obligation to continue, but the option is always there.
